Soy milk is growing on me. After that first disastrous attempt, I’ve been drinking it in small amounts every day and today found myself actually looking forward to a little soy milk before bed. I have now tried three brands: Safeway generic, Silk, and So Nice. All fortified, the latter two sweetened. Safeway generic is revolting, don’t bother (maybe it’s the unsweetened part I hate?). So Nice is strangely watery tasting, and the most overtly sweet of the bunch. Best is Silk, which is creamy like whole milk, and sweet but not too sweet. Husband wants to try rice milk but ew, rice milk? Gross, man!
Also, an unexpected benefit of veganism is you can eat yourself silly and not gain weight. This is of course a product of a large proportion of whole foods in the diet, which come packaged with satiety increasing and maintaining fiber. I get full faster, and stay full about the same time or a bit longer. Husband and I are both eating whenever we’re hungry, stopping when we’re satisfied, and both have lost some weight (me a pound, him two I believe). With zero hunger! It’s amazing! But it totally makes sense – when we’re hungry, we grab some carrots or an apple or a small handful of seeds, not some high calorie junk food. I won’t want to lose weight forever but it’ll be easy to halt – up the intake of higher calorie foods like the nuts and seeds, or coconut milk, or olives, say. For now I’m enjoying the “free” diet. Being full is grand!

Tamikko is lactose-intolerant, and drinks rice milk. She buys Rice Dream, for what its worth. I, also lactose-intolerant, buy lactose-free milk.
Your mistake, however, is not your choice in beverage, its shopping at Safeway.
I’ve heard good things about Rice Dream from some other lactose intolerant friends, so give that a try.
I get a lot of Soy when doing Medifast, and I’m not a huge fan. I do it because that’s the diet and it worked for me, but I’m very happy when I get off it and can start eating more “real food”.
Yeah, I’m still making friends with soy. I like the textured vegetable protein variant, where it’s basically the texture of ground beef and in a stew or something you don’t notice it as tofu. But I’ve only had tofu proper that I enjoyed a few times. I’m not good at cooking it yet and it’s kind of yucky.
Vegan? BORING!
Psh, soy milk is delicious and incredibly good for you. I’m tired of people blasting it because of a few bad studies (probably endorsed by people who want to see soy fail), cow’s milk has a lot of negative press and a lot of studies show some harmful side effects of drinking it as well, but that still doesn’t stop people.
Silk so far seems to be the most creamy version of soy milk out there, but there are literally hundreds of different brands of it soy milk out there, and not to mention there’s other variations of milk, hemp, rice, almonds, etc etc. God I love being alive.
Whether it’s delicious or not is a matter of personal taste… but what’s the deal with calling me out for blasting soy milk when I didn’t say a word about “bad studies” or anything like that? None of the other comments blast soy milk on the basis of health or nutrition either. I’m not sure where you got that. *perplexed*
What? Oh, no, I’m just saying it in general. There’s a lot of random people blasting soy milk these days but they all seem to be affiliated with some type of animal-murdering company.
One more thing. In my opinion that there are many travel insurance web pages of trustworthy companies that permit you to enter a trip details to get you the rates. You can also purchase an international holiday insurance policy on the web by using your own credit card. All you have to do would be to enter your own travel details and you can view the plans side-by-side. Only find the program that suits your financial allowance and needs and use your bank credit card to buy the item. Travel insurance on the internet is a good way to take a look for a reliable company for international holiday insurance. Thanks for revealing your ideas.
