Hospital Visiting

January 3rd, 2009

This last week has been quite dramatic – the day after Boxing day my dad was admitted to hospital with a serious lung problem caused most likely by some medication he was prescribed.  Though he is a pretty open guy and, if you met him, he’d probably tell you all about his health and personal life within ten minutes, I feel a bit odd detailing his illness quite so publicly as this – which is a long way of saying I can’t go into details but in short, he was very seriously ill.  He’s been in the hospital for a week and now seems to be finally on the mend, but probably facing a long convalescence.

I have been staying in the valley with relatives and spending my days at the hospital, sans internet - hence the lack of posts.  Hopefully Dad will be out of the hospital in three or four more days, and then I’ll move in with him for a couple weeks to take care of him while he’s in the early phase of recovery.  He’ll need someone to cook and shop and do laundry and whatnot – as well as just be there to make sure he gets help should he have some freak sudden relapse.  I don’t know if that’s possible but I’ll feel better being there!

So, it’s been quite the winter!   Never a dull moment.  I’ll detail my adventures in dad-minding when I have a bit more time, but for now I just wanted to check in with y’all.

Here’s hoping that he’s on the road to recovery. Give him my best the next time you see him.

If you get a chance to sneak away at all while you’re in town, feel free to drop me a line.
