Gripe: Bras

August 12th, 2009

Why is it so hard to find a bra that is not padded?  Related, why do so many women want to give themselves fake-bigger breasts?  If the goal is to entice romantic partners, won’t the ruse be quickly uncovered when, um, she is?

And, based on the proportion of bras for sale which are padded, I think it is safe to say that something like 90% of the women out there are not so well endowed as they appear.

And finally, if you are of an entrepreneurial spirit, you could probably make a killing selling bras that are comfortable, supportive, pretty, but not padded (or lacy, which makes your shirt lumpy).  It seems this particular combination does not exist in real life.

As a guy, I agree on the ‘false advertising’ issue with the padded bra, but does the padding not also prevent the ‘nipple’ effect when cold? I assumed that was the primary reason, not the other.

There’s a difference between bras that have a couple of extra layers of material to avoid the whole nipple issue, and one that have little silicone pouches sewn into them on the underside of the cups to … accentuate. Think Wonderbra.

I’ve pretty sure BV means the latter, because I have had similar frustrations when trying to find bras. In many stores, you can find bras in one of two categories:

    1. lacy sexy bras with padding
    2. boring, unattractive bras without padding.
